Swimming Area Hours
Beginning the first weekend of August (August 2, 2008), the swimming area will be open 12pm to 6pm Saturdays and Sundays only. It will be closed Monday through Friday. The last day the beach will be open is September 14, 2008. The swimming area will not re-open until Memorial Weekend 2009.
West Beach Snack Bar Hours
Beginning the first weekend of August (August 2, 2008) the snack bar will be open 12pm to 5pm Saturdays and Sundays only. It will be closed Monday through Friday. The last day the Snack Bar will be open is September 14, 2008. The Snack Bar will not re-open until Memorial Weekend 2009.
The Outdoor
Recreation program includes recreational vehicle campsites,
picnic areas, lakes, a skeet range, paintball range, equipment
issue center, boat rental, swimming enhancements, lake
cottages, hunting, and fishing. All Military members with an out-of-state driver's license must present a copy of their military orders bringing them to Fort Rucker, AL in order to receive an Alabama resident state license for
fishing or hunting.
Equipment Issue Center
The
equipment issue center and the office are located in building 24236.
Operational hours are shown above. Numerous types of equipment are
available for rent to include tents, canopies, camping items, life
jackets, paintball equipment, and boats.
Outdoor Recreation will not issue motorized boats or equipment to civilians or contractors. Civilians and contractors must be military or DoD employee sponsored to use any of the fishing boats, pontoon boats, ski boats, and other equipment. Civilians will still be able to utilize the park areas, pavilions, canoes, kayaks and paddleboats.
Outdoor Recreation now requires a $50.00 refundable deposit (cash or check only) on all motorized boats. Deposit will be returned to patron upon vessel return, as long as vessel has not suffered any damages while in patron or patron’s party’s possession.
Pets are not allowed on any Outdoor Recreation vessel.
Lake Tholocco Lake Tholocco is a
640-acre lake that offers numerous recreational activities. Boating,
skiing and swimming are favorite sports at the lake. Facilities
include two fishing piers, three finger piers, beaches, pavilions,
fully finished cottages on East Beach, restrooms and numerous boat
ramps.
From Memorial Day weekend until Labor Day swimming
enhancements make the lake a fun activity for everyone. Water
trampoline and large adult and children's waterslides are
available. Lifejackets are available for children that can not
swim. A renovated Breakaway Snack Bar is available for your
enjoyment. The Lake Tholocco beaches are open Wednesday through
Sunday from 12:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. for swimming Memorial Day
through Labor Day.
We now offer fishing at Lake Tholocco.
Individuals must be sure to get their Alabama Fishing License as
well as their Fort Rucker permit. Both can be purchased at the
Outdoor Recreation office which is located at Lake Tholocco, West Beach Marine Alabama
fishing license will be $12.00 and the Fort Rucker permit is $15.00.
You must have BOTH to fish on Fort Rucker and be 16 years or older.

Also we offer Boat
Issue at the Outdoor Recreation Office. We have Mini Bass Boats, Jon
Boats, Pontoon Boats, Ski boats, fishing boats, and trailers. These
can be issued at a daily, weekly, or hourly rate.
Youth and disabled deer hunt
Youth Special
Events:
This program provides special events for the
youth and disabled. In the fall each year before deer season
opens ODR provides a special deer hunt for the youth and
disabled. Youth fishing tournaments are held once each year
and in the spring the installation works with the local
community to put on a turkey hunt for youth and disabled
before turkey season.
Fishing:
Fishing is
available at Lake Tholocco, Beaver Lake, Beaver
Pond, Parcours and Ech Lake. Parcours Lake is a Youth
Fishing Lake catch and release only for patrons 15 years and
under.
Buckhorn Lake is now CLOSED.

Tree Stand Safety, Firearm Handling (firearm carrying
positions, shooting positions, crossing obstacles,
transporting firearms (casing and uncasing), Firearm
Cleaning, Muzzle Loader, Firearm Identification (firearm
actions, caliber, serial number, selecting proper
ammunition, loading and unloading. Student will complete
a 50 question closed-book examination.

The Fort Rucker Hunter Education Team
in partnership with ODR offers hunting safety courses at no charge
to patrons. You can sign up in person or on the phone. The course
consists of a 50 question closed book exam, completion of CD-ROM and
a field exercise. All field exercise course attendees must have
completed the CD-ROM, Internet prior to attending. The field
exercise consists of:

The Skeet and Trap range is one of the
best in the state of Alabama offering all forms of clay target
shooting. Our clubhouse offers a kitchen, restroom facilities, and
ample space for dining and socializing. Beginner through advanced
instruction and BSA shotgun merit badge counseling is available.
Shooters are required to provide their own ammunition with shot
sizes of #7½, #8, #8½, or #9 only. Eye and ear protection is
required at all times while on the range. Please ensure that all
shotguns are registered with the Provost Marshal.
